Chairman’s Christmas Message
Dear Members,
As we approach the end of the year and the festive season is upon
us, I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the
Sheringham Branch of the Royal British Legion, to extend my sincere
thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support,
commitment and camaraderie throughout the past year.
It has been a particularly busy and significant year for our branch.
From the dedication of our new Standard to marking the 80th
anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day, these moments of remembrance and
reflection have been both poignant and meaningful. The year
culminated, as it always does, in our Remembrance Parade and
Service, which once again demonstrated the strength, dignity and
unity of our branch and wider community.
I would also like to place on record my heartfelt thanks to our
fantastic Poppy Appeal volunteers, whose tireless efforts—often in
all weathers—are vital to the work of the Royal British Legion and a
great credit to the branch.
My sincere thanks also go to our Branch Secretary and Treasurer for
their continued hard work and dedication throughout the year,
ensuring the smooth running and sound management of the branch. I
would also like to acknowledge the valuable support of our Vice
Chairman and Branch Standard Bearer, whose commitment and service
are very much appreciated by us all.
Finally, I would like to extend our first Christmas greetings to our
new Branch President, and we look forward to working closely
together in the year ahead.
Whether through attending meetings, supporting events, fundraising,
volunteering your time, or simply being there for one another, your
dedication ensures that our branch continues to uphold the values
and purpose of the Royal British Legion—supporting our Armed Forces
community, veterans and their families.
Christmas can be a time of joy, reflection and togetherness, but it
can also be a difficult period for some. Please remember that the
Legion is a place of friendship and support, and I encourage anyone
who may be struggling to reach out—no one should feel alone.
As we look ahead to the New Year, I am confident that together we
will continue to strengthen our branch, honour our commitments, and
build on the good work we have achieved.
Finally, as we all raise a glass this Christmas, let us also
remember absent friends.
I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a healthy, happy and hopeful
New Year.
With my very best wishes,
Karl Smith
Chairman
Sheringham Royal British Legion

| What a fabulous parade we had on 7th April
2025 for the Laying Up and Dedication of our Standards.
Led by the
Norwich
Pipe Band and attended by 16 Standards from across the County,
Army Cadets and veterans, it was quite a sight.
The Church service at St Peter's Church led by Cannon Christian
Heycocks, was thought provoking and the choir sang beautifully.
The Old Standard will now be on show in the Church. The lesson
was read by Lieutenant General J Page CB OBE, Norfolk County
President.
Hosted at the
Sheringham Masonic Centre - a fabulous venue and so welcoming.
The buffet was delicious and the staff so helpful (available to
hire).
The first official event that the Standard will attend is at Fred
Squires funeral service at Wymondham Abbey.
Thanks to all those who came out to support us and joined in the
parade.
